Subject: Volunteer Development Incentive in our Community 

The purpose of this meeting is to:

Review Survey Results and receive input and discussion 
Brief discussion and update the Blue Print for this program 
Discussion on a Volunteer Data Base and coordination of Volunteers
Recruitment, recognition and retention of volunteers. 

Your attendance is important to the success of this program we would like to see all groups participate in the discussion and input your ideas. 


Quest speaker will be Andrew Harvey (B.A. (Hons.) French and Linguistics, Memorial University; M.A. Linguistics, University of
Dares Salaam) grew up in Mount Pearl, and credits his experience as being a young person in the city as a major influence in his development as an active citizen. A founding member of the Mount Pearl Youth Action Team, member of the Sir James Pearl Commemoration Committee, and two-time recipient of the John Rossitter Mount Pearl Male Youth of the Year Award, Andrew began exercising his right to participate in civic life at a young age. Currently, Andrew is working as a program planner at the Office of Public Engagement, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, applying his skills in facilitation, research, and deliberative dialogue to various contexts province-wide.

Also Steve Kent Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs, Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement, Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services – Newfoundland and Labrador, and Registrar General will be there as well.

Steve has a long history of community involvement. From 1992 to 1996, he was selected as Mount Pearl's Youth of the Year, and was also named Youth Volunteer of the Year on two occasions. He received the national YTV Achievement Award for Public Service in 1996. In December 1999, Maclean's magazine recognized Steve as one of the top 100 Canadians to watch for in the next century. Currently, in addition to actively supporting many community groups in Paradise and Mount Pearl, Steve continues to volunteer with Scouts Canada, Rotary, the Knights of Columbus and Junior Achievement.
